For being a potential tourist spot, this place does have excellent food. The fish is very fresh as well as all of the other dishes. The bar is full and they pour great drinks . If you're in the area this definitely is a place you must go to

Shaggy's is nearly perfect. I have a rule regarding the ordering of po-boys. According to my rule; if I am out of the New Orleans metropolitan area, I do not order a po-boy. You may ask yourself why, but it's simple really; It is highly unlikely they will have the correct bread. You see the bread is actually the most important part of a true New Orleans po-boy. Trust me on this. So what does this have to do with Shaggy's? I disregarded my rule here and ended up having a great experience. The food is just one part of the Shaggy's equation. My shrimp po-boy was loaded with perfectly fried, fresh shrimp. It was well dressed although the bread was too soft. Real po-boy bread has a bit of a bite to it when taking a bite, but this was more like the bread you get at a grocery store. Despite that, I savored every single bite and will remember it forever. So, now that the food is out of the way, I will get to why Shaggy's has truly won me over. Shaggy's is located in Pass Christian in a marina. Anyone who knows me knows that I love boats, marinas and the water, so a restaurant that has a view of all three could likely serve me an old shoe and I'd be happy. The view here is phenomenal. The restaurant has a very cool and funky vibe. At the bar were old men with their pony tails and beers living the true margaritaville lifestyle. I envisioned my dad sitting there with a pony tail, a scotch and a big ole grin. I also envisioned myself in 30 years quite hopeful that I am one of those guys. Imagine being able to wear a Hawaiian shirt, flip flops and never having to shave. That is my kind of life. Anyway, back to reality. The inside part of Shaggy's fills up very quickly, but that is OK. Outside is where you need to be unless there is inclement weather. Depending what side you sit on will determine how great your view is. I think the left side (when facing the gulf) offers the best view. That's the side that faces the marina. Sitting there, I envisioned myself living on one of the boats in 30 years stumbling to the bar with my other Hawaiian shirt wearing compadres. I love places like Shaggy's and there are far too left in this world. If you happen to be in the area, I strongly encourage you pay Shaggy's a visit. Even if you don't eat, sit around and dream.

This restaurant is so my kind of place. It has everything I love. Perfectly casual laid back vibe? Check. Friendly and sweet southern service? Check. Great music piping throughout (on the patio, even)? Check. A fantastic view? Check. Delicious food? Do I even have to say it? Check, check, check. To me, this place is perfection. If it were a man I'd marry it. It was on a whim that I happened to come here and wow...I'm so happy the stars aligned. I had the shrimp tacos and they were spicy and so delicious. The Bloody Mary was spicy and strong. The jerk shrimp appetizer was spicy and sweet. Being a girl who loves spice, all of this made me really happy. My mouth was on fire when I left and that is just how I like it. The real deal was the view. Please do yourself the biggest favor and sit outside. We were in a hurry and the wait for inside of the restaurant was 45 minutes. Outside? Zero. It was honestly the best choice I never had to make.

Cool little pace with a great location, right along the waterfront at the marina. It was the perfect place to go and sit and enjoy the open air restaurant where the cool night breeze passes through on a hot summer evening. We were there at about 7:30 pm on a Wednesday night in July was kind of surprised it wasn't too crowded. I'm guessing on weekends, they're pretty packed though. The food was pretty good- not the best charbroiled oysters I've ever had, and i'd get something different next time, but I will rave about the homemade ranch dressing on the salad. I should have asked if they sold it by the bottle, it was that good. Everyone else in my group seemed to enjoy their food. We had excellent service, the ambience was great and overall, I'd go back again.

The view and location are great. It is so relaxing to watch the boats come and go through the marina. The boiled shrimp and steamed crab legs were the best part of our meal. Spicy and flavorful. The blackened fish sandwich was tasteless as well as the crab cake. So disappointing. My daughter ordered Mac and cheese from the kid's menu and it was Kraft blue box Mac and cheese. The fried shrimp from the kid's menu was so tough. Service was ok. The food took forever to come out.

Driving from Pascagoula to New Orleans I heard my stomach growl. Looked up seafood joints and found a handful in Pass Christian. Got off highway 10 and drive south about 12 minutes to the 90. Drove around for a visual of all the selections and Shaggy's stood out. Sitting out in a bed of docks, full of all kinds of boats, Shaggy's bright red paint and inviting sign drew me in. Upon entrance, I knew I found the kind of place I was envisioning. Greeted by several friendly faces, I was given my choice of seating so I took a spot outside overlooking the docks and the 3rd coast shores. My server Ariel showed up and I decided she was choosing everything I would eat and drink that evening. Started up with crab cakes and fried green tomatoes covered in some sort of sauce. I wolfed it down... it was delicious. Next, a blackened shrimp and fried green tomato po-boy. Not the best po-boy I've ever had but this does not mean it was bad. It was excellent! (best po-boy on earth goes to another place, Shaggy's earns 2nd place) Next, I took down half a dozen oysters. I'm not an oyster connoisseur but they were as good as I've had. Cocktails were made well and definitely not short on fun juice. I've done my best to explain the food but the icing on the cake was the staff. If it wasn't for my server Ariel, I would have rated Shaggy's 4 stars. She gave me just about perfect service even when the place started crowding up. I highly recommend the place and will return any time I have a glimpse of a chance to. GO TEAM ARIEL!!

Love their casual, laid back atmosphere. Music was good and low and the service was great. We had the smoke tuna dip to start with (tasty but a little dry). Then I had the blackened shrimp tacos with fries which were very tasty!

The view from this oceanside restaurant is simply beautiful. How can you beat warm weather, light breeze, waves, boats, seagulls, and good food? It is pretty difficult to do! The place was so colorful and made you feel like you were on vacation just by sitting down. Be sure to check out the great daily specials! Each of us got actually full from our meals here, which is a nice change for a tourist area food stop. They have a cool little fishing pole/bobber system to get your waitress which is really fun too. I had some wonderful fresh shrimp and my wife had a fresh fish of the day. Both of our meals tasted like they were just caught and prepared. So fresh! So wonderful! The service was excellent and they didnt rush us from our outdoor deck spot even though they were pretty busy!

Marcella @ Shaggy's I emailed the manager over a month ago like you suggested. I still haven't heard back from anyone in regards to my first and last horrible experience at Shaggy's. Nobody has offered to make this right. So my first review of this place still stands. Still upsetting about the way you treat your customers. Very unsatisfied with the food and the overall experience. I give this place zero stars and two thumbs way down.

Nice place over looking the harbor. For was good. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. More like a sports bar with the big screen TVs. Waitress's are friendly and knowledgeable.

This is your typical, water front, grill. I had the seared tuna tacos, with cajun fries. I thought it was good and would recommend it. To be honest, the best part of the meal was our waitress, Nicolette. You did a super job!

  • Nadine K.

We stop by about once a month....usually just sit at the bar but this time we moved and sat at an empty table outside to enjoy the great weather & view of the harbor. Emelia was great...fast, friendly, didn't mind that we were there just to have a few beers.

Great place on the water, all windows and doors open. Kids loved playing on the beach right near the parking lot. Great gumbo and margaritas and friendly service. Kids also loved the chalkboards on the back of the kids menus! Very relaxing place but with a fun atmosphere. We stopped here on our way from Houston to Florida for lunch.

Not good! Bartender didn't give a hell about our food. I gave back 85% of my order, and he had ask if I wanted dessert!?! Really? Fried fish was very mushy, it had the consistency of gelatine. Got a basket of food, zero plates or silverware. Could list much more, but I won't! I'll stick to the Blind Tiger #blindtiger down the street.

  • Jennifer S.

Love the atmosphere and love the shrimp baskets! The first few visits we had the pulled pork sandwiches also very good! If you're there in the evening sitting outside is a joy!

I bet I have hung out on the beach plenty of times and never checked this place out. So on my mini vacation I decided to give this place a try. Given the fact I had just eaten 40 minutes prior I wasn't that hungry when I showed up here.Instead I opted to just drink a beer. The lady bartender downstairs was very friendly. She was very thorough and informative about the prices of beer and mixed drinks. When I drank my beer I sat down in my chair and took in the view of the harbor and the gulf of mexico. Despite what anyone says you really can't beat the surroundings or the view. The place itself had the rustic maritime theme going on. In short great place to grab a beer and take in the surroundings. Next time I come I will have to show up with an empty stomach.

Had a table for two around 12:50pm. Waited 1hour. When we got up stairs, they had at least 5other tables open. Waited about 10mins for the server. Waited over 40mins for food ( a Cobb salad and chicken fingers). Looked around and they still had tables open. Plan on waiting a while. There was a great breeze and the view is nice. I would suggest call ahead and make a reservation. And have your patient hat on.

My new favorite place in the vast metropolis of Pass Christian? Yesh. Shaggy's is the perfect place for a perfect day... and by perfect, I mean 60's or 70's, sunny, and light to moderate cloud cover. These conditions allow for an incredible atmosphere sitting out on the deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico while enjoying drinks and fried seafood. We experienced this exact, most perfect, scenario just the other day. The views were spectacular and the fried tomatos and oysters were top notch. Our server (wish I could remember her name) was awesome... very attentive, paid attention to the details (kids), and never missed a beat. The fried tomatos with a rich crabmeat sauce was awesome, and I loved the oysters. They got them just right. After dinner, we enjoyed a hour or two playing with the kids on the beautiful playground next door and on the rocks lining the sea. BOTTOM LINE: An awesome gulf experience in the BSL/Pass Christian area.

Oh my goodness! How do you describe the best seafood you have ever had, a view to die for, and a fantastic, attentive, sweet server named Jamie. You will not be disappointed. The oyster basket was mouthwatering and the Shaggy screwdriver was awesome!

This update is based on the last three visits. I've really enjoyed this place over the last year and a bit, but it's slipping badly just in the last month or so. Can't order anything fried, as they're changing their fry oil far less frequently. Had a catfish poboy a couple of weeks ago, and it was, without reservation, the nastiest catfish poboy I've ever had. Part of it was the complete lack of seasoning, but that nasty fry oil just made it unpalatable. So what did I order last time? Fried speckled trout dinner. Why? I dunno. Crazy, I guess. As it turned out, though, the fry oil wasn't the problem that time. The problem was the big plank of unseasoned fried fish with a tablespoon of flavorless "cream sauce" lying on the middle of it. Specks aren't a strong tasting fish anyway, and they dry out easily, as this fish plank easily demonstrated. There wasn't enough sauce to make a difference even had there been anything to it, and there wasn't. Along with the fish came mashed red potatoes that had been boiled in crab boil (you can hardly go wrong with that, those were delicious), and a pile of canned green beans. I'm not kidding about the canned green beans. Unseasoned canned green beans at that. Can to pan to plate. Were it not for the mashed potatoes, I've not had a meal like that since I was in the hospital. My grade school hot lunches in 1972 were better than this. Big plate of bland. And when I got the bill? 24 bucks for the fish plank and canned bean special. Way to twist that knife, guys. I can get much better food for half the price at the Knock Knock in Waveland. I don't know if the owners of the place read these reviews. I hope they do. I haven't seen that blonde woman who used to always be there for a long time now. It seems like maybe they have a new chef (I'll say "cook," as no one called "chef" would ever serve canned green beans), and no one's paying attention. Y'all are asleep at the wheel over there. Please fix it!

Great place!! Kids had fun watching the seagulls. We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Service was good and the food tasted great as well. It's a great little spot on Highway 90. It's a quirky little place and lots of fun!

stopped here for a quick bite and did not realize that it was national margarita day. $1 margaritas on the rocks. I enjoyed quite a few. This place has a beach shack atmosphere with a simple menu. The service that we recieved was fantastic. We sat ourside because the weather was nice but quickly realized the gnats and sandflys were out too. We were through the appetizers before someone in our party complained and they were more than happy to move us inside. Our server had already sent a bus boy to go buy bug spray before we asked to move. That is service! I got the pulled pork which come with coleslaw and potato salad. It was good for this being primarily a seafood joint. For appetizers we shared the nachos with fried crawfish tails. The nachos were amazing and could be a meal by itself. We also got the beach balls, which were fried mashed potatos with bacon and chees inside. I didnt know what to expect but they were delicious. I can not forget about the chargrilled oysters. They were good, not the best ever, but it is a strong dish.

I was completely charmed by Shaggy's (and Pass Christian). It is probably the fact there was a rainbow of epic proportions in the sky when my mother and I pulled up for an early dinner but the food was pretty good, too. We both had the fish tacos and fries, which were yummy, and the waitress was quite on-the-ball with the iced tea refills, which I appreciate. The real star, though, is the ambiance and the location. It was so neat to see the boats, water, sky, and birds from the table on the second-floor deck, especially with the rainbow and all. It even rained on us outside but the umbrellas are large and cleverly arranged so you do stay dry and that just added to it all. *happy sigh* *hums "Over the Rainbow*

Awesome laid back casual spot. Bartenders are on point especially Marshall, one of the few professional mixologist on the coast. Great attitude, great vibe, and great service. A must visit spot when near "The Pass" area. Can't go wrong.

Tried to have dinner here last night. I ordered the catch which was redfish with a shrimp cajun cream sauce. The shrimp were so bad that I could mash them like potatoes with my fork. The server said it was because they had been in the sauce so long they were "tender". The end...no offer to fix it or anything. Then I looked over at the lemon that had garnished the top of my rotten shrimp and it was moldy. I won't be back. They're going to kill someone with this rotten food.

    (1)
  • David B.

Took the family there to eat. I'm convinced they caught the fish as you ordered them. Freshest seafood I've ever eaten. The only drawback; there was a couple of guys playing guitars and singing. They had the volume turned up to eleven. We sat out on the balcony and it was still painfully loud. That kind of killed the vibe for us.

Shaggy's is a tasty casual environment to grab some great food. From anywhere in the restaurant you have a harbor view and even on a rainy day it is a fabulous place to eat with a great view The nachos, po boys, oysters and BBQ pork sandwich are amazing. Jon is always our server ( plus gives a 10% military discount) and he is awesome, just ask for him! The drinks are good and happy hour drinks are around $3 each. Service is fast and high quality. Highly recommend this place, especially if your coming in for cruising the coast ;-)

I've lived in the Pass for about a year now. When we first visited Shaggy's we loved it; food was great. Slowly within that year food/service rapidly declined. Last trip food was ice cold and they offered to nuke it :( Go for the bar and fun atmosphere.

Wow! Just left Shaggy's after a pitcher of Blue Moon, Beach Balks and Seafood Pasta, followed by a Bushwhacker for dessert. It doesn't get much better than that!. The view is great and so was our server, Jamie C.

Loved my eating experience!!! EXCELLENT SERVICE WITH Jamie C.!!! The Eggplant St. Shaggy, Seafood Pasta that the others ordered was very good. I loved the fish sandwich was so good. The fish was fresh and tasty. My margarita was wonderful. We shared a Bushwhacker for dessert. YUM!!!

As a new resident of Pass Christian couldn't have had a better experience at Shaggy's. Between Kyrissa's service with a smile that continues throughout the meal and Kent the manager making sure all is a continuous delight during your meal we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Went to this place for crawfish and the flavor couldn't have been more perfect. A beach like setting, and service was a constant what a delightful place! This place will definitely be a regular for us!

  • Cameron M.

The view was nice and the music was good on the night I visited. At first glance, you will notice that the dining room isn't very clean. There is trash on the floors and the tables are sticky. My partner and I order the catch of the day - "the best and freshest available." We both requested it grilled, but my fish came fried. The fish was either previously frozen or old - maybe both. Either way, it wasn't fresh. It was rubbery and overcooked. The side salad tastes like it comes from a bag. The dressings are probably from a gallon bottle in the kitchen. Cocktails are made from mixers. Point is, the food is not very good. It's a sub-par trendy beach spot that is nothing more than a "Sysco" restaurant.

  • Peter B.

Giving it 3 stars, but the restaurant has great potential. I got the fried shrimp basked and my wife got the fried shrimp and cat fish basket. The shrimp were huge and plentiful, more than enough. However they were overcooked and had a rubber feeling to them because of it. The batter is the best I have had on the coast and I will come back and get it again in hopes they will be cooked better. The service was ok, not what it should have been for a 1pm lunch. Restaurant was at best, half full and our waitress had to be reminded to fill our drinks and bring out dipping sauce. Looking forward to one more visit because I do believe it was just an off day.

  • Benjamin W.

The food is delicious, fresh, and fairly priced. Beautiful view of the water, I enjoy looking at the shrimp boats that pull up right next to Shaggy's. I gave it a 3 star review due to the subpar service (at best), and extraordinarily long wait times. My girlfriend and I have dined here 3 times, and each time we have ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer. Over the course of all 3 visits, the appetizer took about 15 minutes to arrive, and entrees about 30 minutes. As far as the service goes, they are just not very attentive. We have gone during non-rush hours, and numerous times during each visit, our drinks would go empty and we'd wait 5-10 minutes for a refill; a couple of times we'd even have to track down another server to let our server know that our drinks were empty. This would be a little more understandable if there was a huge rush, but when we are one of the few tables there, it is completely inexcusable. Overall, I would recommend Shaggy's with hesitation. If they can get their service and turnover times under control, this could easily be one of the best restaurants in Pass.

This place has a great location in the harbor with two floors. The second floor is where the action was today, with the windows open. My krewe pulled up on a boat and parked right out front. We had a dog with us, but the restaurant was cool with it. The server was even nice enough to get a bowl of water for him. The feel is similar to Joe's Crab Shack, but you can tell that the offshore hooks lining the bar have really been used giving it more authenticity. My friends thought, despite the no outside beverages sign, that if they ordered two more Corona from the bar it'd be okay to bring the beers in that we had been drinking on the boat. No can do, peeps. We went during the Saints game to catch the tail end of it after a long weekend trip. We sat probably three tables from the entrance to the right, granting us the view of three TVs. Unfortunately one would lose reception at key moments and the other had a weird glare on it, leaving us to the one behind the bar. For the guys in our group, this wasn't the best viewing options. They did have a ticket drawing for a Saints gift basket, so that was cool, though we didn't win. We ordered a dozen raw oysters, seemingly perfect for a lazy Sunday in the Harbor. They came out, and at least three of them were the size of a nickel. It's the beginning of the true oyster season so I will give them that, but oyster bars usually shuck a few to make up for the puny ones. Not here, and so that bummed me out. I then ordered the two fish tacos for my lunch, and they were phenomenal, but again I thought they were a little skimpy with the fish. I would definitely come back here for a second round, and hope the oysters will be a little plumper and maybe get a better angle on TVs.

Great shrimp tacos, excellent "big pig" pulled pork sandwich all delivered with fine service plus outside tables. Not much to go wrong there. Go back, absolutely next time I'm in the Pass Christian area again.

My boyfriend and I stopped by here on beautiful spring day, May 2nd, just a little after lunch. We had a couple of po-boys and a few margaritas and had a great time. "AKAY", our waitress, was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She made the experience all the better! The staff made us feel so special and relaxed, the manager Dolly even checked on us to insure we were enjoying our "day trip to paradise". The atmosphere was like sitting on the porch, the food was as good as everyone claims. The place is always packed, that says something about how popular it is. I will take the rest of my family back next time we're in town for sure!

Come with an appetite, that's for sure! Bartender is super cool, sweet, funny. Menu is very impressive, I wanted one of all. Alas my little tummy wouldn't be able to handle one entré. I had just run 5 miles and was looking to get a little food in me so I could continue running. Just looking at the menu I knew I was going to be in for a treat! I had the grilled fish, and some oysters. Boy, oh boy, oh boy it was good! I followed that with a couple of local beers on tap and I was satisfied! Can't wait to get back there!

This place is one of the main bars in Pass Christian and used to be among the most popular, as it is right at the main marina, but the original owner sold it and opened up the Blind Tiger across the bridge in Bay St. Louis and seems to have taken some of the former clientele with him. They have a respectable menu with some simple bar grub and a few better dining surprises available. More than a few locals mentioned that the food quality and bar experience have both gone down since the new owners took over so hopefully they can step it up to keep this place the vibrant focal point of the harbor that it has been. It can be hit or miss on the crowd here so if it doesn't have much going on here then check out the Bacchus on the Beach across the street or go into Bay St. Louis and check out their little downtown area. When this place is crowded and at fill tilt it definitely gets interesting here.

Good. Ahi and spinach salad appetizer was yummy--the soy/wasabi mayo dressing was piquant and delicious. Not cheap but good quality and portions for the price.

The atmosphere, the staff, but most importantly the food is on point. Great little hideaway in Pass Christian, MS. Has the look and feel of a coastal dive but the atmosphere will charm you and the menu will dazzle you.

Talk about a location, second floor overlooking the marina and Gulf of Mexico, with outdoor seating. Friendly staff and a large parking lot. The food was pretty good, especially for the reasonable price. I had a Mahi sandwich with fries for $14, not gourmet but great bar food. Drinks were priced right also. $7 Coronarita, 4.5 for wine.

Only thing better than the delicious food (especially the Jamaican jerk shrimp) is the genuinely heartfelt hospitality (thanks Honey). Ya'll made these two New Yorkers feel right at home

Wow! The worst service and the food is really sub-par. First time to vacation in the Longbeach area and hoped to find fresh seafood and loach produce and found what appears to be processed food and frozen shrimp. And worst, when the waitress, Krissa, asked for our order, we discussed whether we should get the chip and salsa or the crab dip...after a brief discussion we asked for the "woohoo crab dip." Instead of a crab dip, we got a wahoo (similar to tuna) salad scooped with an ice cream scooper with crackers. We told Krissa we ordered a crab dip and she said the "woohoo dip" isn't crab and then just left it on the table. The kids made an attempt to eat it, but it was pretty bad. Now for the frozen shrimp with some shredded lettuce on it...goodness, I just can't relive it. I did ask for something else to put in it, she told me she normally orders it with lettuce, tomato, onion and creole sauce...that would have been good information before I ordered it.

The main thing this restaurant has going for it is the atmosphere and location. My husband and I stopped here for lunch based on the good reviews it has. We didn't find that there was much to brag about after having a couple of drinks and lunch here. The food was expensive for what we got. The side salad I received looked more like a sad, small plate of toppings for tacos. It had about 5 pieces of lettuce, a few shreds of cheese and a few very tiny diced tomato pieces. That was it! The crab cakes did not have much crab meat in them and it was $16.95 for 2 small crab cakes. They were not very good since they seem to have more filler than crab meat. The charbroiled oysters were just as mediocre. If you want a place to hang out and have a few beers looking at the water, this is a good place to do that. If you are looking for a good meal, try somewhere else. This is a tourist place. Nothing more.

Great atmosphere if you want to feel like you're on vacation, particularly when all the shutters are open. The drinks are good, but the food -- special grouper po-boy and fries -- was pretty greasy.

Shaggy's has pretty good food, a great atmosphere, and reasonable prices. I haven't had anything that was bad, most things are really good. It isn't the best food I have ever had, but the overall experience is top notch.

My husband and I were traveling along the coast and always like to check Yelp for seacoast restaurants with good reviews. "Shaggy's lived up to it's reviews and then some. The atmosphere, food and service was great. The general manager "Dolly" went above and beyond the job description. She saw we had a problem getting a good picture and whipped out her big camera (even stood on a chair) for a better angle. The next day she sent them to me in an e-mail. Thank you again "Dollly" and I will surely let all our travleing friends that "Shaggy's" is a great fun spot with really good food. Richard and Mary Schmitt Burlington, VT and Melbourne, FL

It was beyond amazing. I'm from the coast and never thought to come here but I finally did and realize that I have missed out. The fried green tomatoes with crab was great. I also got a shrimp and oyster po boy that was to die for. Two thumbs up.

Definitely more enjoyable in the warmer months! Situated right on the harbor gives great atmosphere on the deck in the summer breeze, but was a little chilly on a blustery day in the winter. Had the poboy and gumbo special - very good. Took a little long to get our food, but for the most part was worth the wait. Another in our party had the blackened Mahi, which proved to be the hit at our table. Enjoy this place in the summertime, with great views and fun atmosphere.

I was surprised and excited when I walked in the door. A buzzing, friendly vibe with an awesome beach atmosphere and cool view of the coast. Started with a strawberry margarita on the rocks.fried tomatoes with crabfish. Followed by snapper wrap with sweet potato fries. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and was well presented. Anyway we can move this closer to my home??

The restaurant has a great casual atmosphere and a great staff! And, the food is excellent, too! We had the appetizer called "Beach Balls". It was amazing. The fried fish was great. I am a little picky about how well fish is cleaned before it is fried and they did a perfect job. My family really wants to go back to Shaggy's soon. There is a great view of the marina and beach also.

Heard about Shaggy's from locals so thought we should try and were pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed a nice margarita with homemade sweet & sour that went down smoothly. The fried green tomatoes with fresh crabmeat and roumalade were a great start. We enjoyed them so much we tried the tuna bites as well. They were awesome! The hit of the meal! The fried shrimp was so fresh and cooked to perfection with a unique tartar sauce. The atmosphere was great with a view of the marina and acoustic live music. On our next visit we will be sure to return.

Good food, OK drink selection, average service. For out of towners; go here for the atmosphere and the view. Food...very, very average, even the fresh fish. Prices are OK to decent for something ON the water. But, fun place to see, and check into once. Four stars ONLY for the view/set up. Service, selection and price would put it at a 3.

Located right at the Pass Christian Harbor, Shaggy's is a restaurant located on stilts. There's a huge bar and dinning area with patio. The view is great. The place definitely has a beach vibe to it. Although it's a seafood restaurant, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was very tender. The BBQ sauce for the sandwich came on the side, which I appreciated since I ordered to go. I didn't try the slaw or the potato salad that came with the sandwich. Partially because I was in a rush and partially because although my server was very nice, she didn't give me any utensils with to eat them with. Would go back if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for this place.

I go here because its close to my surf spot, and thats it. Its got a good bar with good service and the food hits the spot after a long-exhausting day of watersports. The food is the worst thing about this place. Its certainly edible and at least the chefs make an effort to spice things up a bit, but that effort gets lost on cheap ingredients. The fish is fresh at least but then its either overcooked or they tried to hard by smothering it with unnecessary spices/toppings/etc. Its worth a visit to stare over the water, have a drink and a quick bite before heading back to the beach.

The drinks were excellent! On a warm summer day this place seems like it would be place to go! Downstairs at the bar, drinking one of the most delicious pina colada's I've ever had, looking over the beautiful coastal views. However, this was not my first experience. On my husband and I's usual date night we decided to stop by Shaggy's for dinner because word through the grapevine was that this restaurant was worth trying. You walk in and immediately you have a cool relaxed beach feel. NOT the kind of place to be on a cool rainy day such as the day we went. Anyways, we ordered the Nachos with the fried crawfish as an appetizer, it was really good! Unfortunately it seems like it was cooked in the microwave and the lettuce looked old, as if it had been sitting out for a while. All in all the nachos tasted good. I ordered the burger for my entree and was completely disappointed. My fries were cold and the burger was not fresh by any means. I ordered a pina colada with my dinner and it was delicious! My husband ordered the fish combo Shaggy's basket, he wasn't impressed. Conclusively, Shaggy's is not a classy place to eat dinner, or eat at all. I would describe Shaggy's as a place to have drinks on a warm summer's day, a place to come in with your flip flops on and ready to have drinks, a place that is acceptable if you come in with sand in your hair and on your body. The food may be tolerable if you have had a few too many drinks and you are in desperate need of something to fill your belly, but NOT if your goal is a nice dinner out.

I was so excited to go here because everyone said we would have a great time. What they failed to say was that you should go UPSTAIRS!!!! Unfortunately, we ate downstairs and apparently our waitress wasn't interested in making any money. The young lady with the star tattoo on the back of her neck was so unpleasant and didn't smile the entire time we were there. She behaved this way with every table and actually encouraged patrons to go upstairs. We really should have gone upstairs. The food was mediocre at best, but this could have to do with the service we received.

The food is a disgrace. Honestly. I'm from the Coast and would be hard pressed to recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent meal. There are two redeeming qualities. The location and the drinks, both great, but that's about it.

Excellent service tonight and a fun atmosphere. The Red fish special with potatoes and vegetables was an wonderful choice. My fish was perfectly seasoned and well prepared. I also ordered the Oysters Rockefeller dozen for $17 and the special was about $19.99 a little pricey but well worth it. The place is located at the pier in Pass Christian with a beautiful view of the ocean and the yachts parked along side the pier. The atmosphere is loud and the people are very friendly & welcoming. Overall I spent around $20 per person for meals only. If you add drinks into the mix a party of 5 could be looking at around $150. IMO. Enjoy the scenery and the ambiance you are paying for it.

Ordered raw oysters. They came out smelling like they were stored in a trunk of a car on a hot summer day. So I would recommend you avoid them. We live in gulfport and stop by from time to time. They are trying to improve their service. Got to give that to them. Now it's time to work on the menu. As always atmosphere is good, could be so much more with a better menu.

When the very nice waitress tells us redfish is the lunch special and she brings me some sort of farm raised catfish-like product AND charges $21.00, it is time to go to Yelp. I really don't mind restaurants serving farm raised fish but do not tell me it is redfish/mahi/snapper, etc. Redfish has very distinctive texture, thickness and flavor and is unmistakable. What I was served was thin and oily. If Shaggy's was located in Kansas, OK I would expect such outright deception but there are redfish swimming all in the water just a feet from the docks at Shaggy's. I wish there was some sort of gov't regulations regarding restaurants labeling (and mislabeling) seafood. Until then beware when eating at this restaurant...

A great location and view being situated right on the gulf as part of a marina, Shaggy's has an island, Jimmy Buffet-esque feel without the Parrotheat aspect. The restaurant/bar sits high with a deak wrapping around the main bar and dining area, that also has full size windows that open completely to give you an unencumbered view of the Gulf from almost any seat. The menu has a good mix of burgers, sandwhiches and seafood fare that has always been good. The wait staff if friendly enough, but for some reason the hostess never has a clue on where to seat people. Its a fun environment with good food and drinks, so is a favorite spot of mine when on the gulf shores. the items tend to be a bit pricey for the casual atmophere and food selection, but the atmosphere definitely makes up for it.

Out for a ride with a group of friends we stopped here for lunch. BIG mistake! The food was LOUSY! I had onion rings that were lumpy battered with no taste (Onions, really?) and fish that was just so so. served almost cold. The plate was supposed to have coleslaw but when I asked to get it, I was told they ran out and wouldn't substitute nor did they have to tell you because it was a side dish and it wasn't guaranteed you would get it. WHAT?? The waitresses were young school kids trying to do the best they could, but were severely overwhelmed and poorly trained to give service. They never checked back once they served the food, so forget more drinks or refills. All in all, Skip this place!! Can't figure out how it still is in business. The whole group was displeased with their food, but we were so hungry we ate it. I just read the other reviews and it seems like this restaurant is inconsistent with its food and service. If I am going to pay for a fairly expensive meal, I'll go where the odds are more in my favor and they have developed consistency! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE!

Lemme sum up: Casual dockside dining, fresh fish, good service When you get tired of the NOLA French Quarter hub bub and just want to enjoy the Gulf Coast, make your way to Shaggy's. This pier side restaurant offers good fish entrees for reasonable prices with a great view of the coast. The cuisine of the house is seafood centric. There is always a "catch of the day" and unlike other places, you can bet they actually caught the thing THAT day. I ordered the wasabi seared tuna over seaweed salad. It was actually pretty decent. The chef even got artistic with the sauces and made a decent presentation. Service is t-shirt and shorts clad servers who are informally friendly. Sometimes things get busy and you have to flag your waitress down to get another round of beers, but overall, they are cheerful and able to take a joke...and dish it right back. The best thing about this place is that it's a mini-Margaritaville on stilts. There's no rush to get you out of the place once you've finished your meal. The sun goes down as easy as the Abita Ambers (local brew), pelicans cruise the harbor, and you realize...life is good.

Great location, overlooking Pass Christian harbor, with a rustic Caribbean color scheme and atmosphere. Best during nice weather when they open their large windows allowing patrons the full vista view.. I have only had their sandwiches and drinks which disqualifies me from rating anything else but their service was good.

Just ate lunch at their brand new second store in Biloxi. Even though they've been open for a few months now, they still don't have a yelp page yet! So I will post a general review encompassing both the PC and Biloxi locations. On a side note: the address for the PC location is off by a block. Yelp shows it inland across the street from the city campus when it is actually connected to the PC harbor. Great fresh fish selections here. The tuna and redfish tend to be my favorites. I never liked going to the original location on the weekends because it becomes way too crowded. There's not much space to wait so you end up standing around the host podium, awkwardly getting in everyone's way. I knocked off one star because of their below average gumbo. I have high standards for gumbo since this is the gulf coast. I have gotten their gumbo several times and it has been consistently bad. It is a watered down shadow of real thick gumbo with a sheen of oil floating on top (I thought BP cleaned this stuff up last year?). Other than the gumbo, I have enjoyed the food and open~aired atmosphere. If you come in the winter, they have an open pit, two sided fireplace to keep the patrons warm (and they thankfully close the windows!).

Last day of the Mississippi visit and the family decided that we must have a po boy (6pm on a Sunday night in November - good luck). Thankfully Shaggy's was open. Shaggy's is a cool place to come and hang out for the evening and kick back a brew and watch some football. There is a wood fireplace that was kickin in the middle of the dining area/bar that kept the area cozy. We sampled the fried fish, fish sandwich & some oyster po boys. The fish and fish sandwich were a hit, but the po boys were just ok. Bread was not crusty, remoulade instead of mayo and not enough oysters for the sandwich. Ordered the cheese dip, not available. Ordered the gumbo, not available. Waitress mentioned that the menu needs updating. I would come back for a great view, good service and a drink - but would pass on the po boy.

A Key West feel right here on the Gulf Coast of MS. Really?? who knew ;-) While we did not eat any food we did enjoy a few drinks and the live music that was playing. Our server was amazing. She was on the ball and always there to check on us. Just a kick back place that anyone could feel comfortable in. The views are amazing, the music was great (Island/Jimmy Buffett stuff) and service was spot on. Really what more can you ask for? Once the temps cool down a bit we will, for sure, be back for another visit to see how the food is :)

Shaggy's is cool. When I need my island fix I head over to Shaggy's. The drinks and food are good and the location right in the marina is the perfect tropical getaway in Mississippi. If I had one suggestion to make it would be to play more island type music or Buffett or something. Several times I was there the music was kind of bad or there wasn't any on at all. Overall I've enjoyed myself every time I went. I even ran into the Governor of Mississippi, Haley Barbour there?

This is my go-to place for relaxing for the weekend or entertaining for business on the coast. The food is good but not great. You go for the ambiance of sitting on the water with a bucket of beer.

The other day after spending a day at the park with my sister, niece and nephew we decided to grab some lunch. We were all kind of grimy and decided a casual, beach front type place would be ideal. This place honestly feels like something that was A. Here before the storm or B. Somewhere in Florida or the like. The decor is what you'd expect of a beach front, beach bum type place. The floor plan/layout is completely open for tons of light and breeze to come off of the water and buddy does it! It was perfect for it and it was a great sensory overload that I haven't experienced in a very long time. On to the food. The menu was surprisingly small and only about half of it was seafood related, which was kind of odd seeing as it was on the beach. They had a chicken sandwich, pulled pork, a burger, chicken quesadillas and Tortilla soup of all things! I really was expecting a bit more seafood once again given that it's ON THE BEACH. That said, the kids ordered typical kids food (catfish strips and chicken strips all with fries) for around the tune of $5 a pop and the portions were pretty spot on. My niece did complain of the chicken being a bit 'too spicy'. I tasted it and thought it was fine but then again, i'm not an 9-10 year old. My sister got the shrimp poboy with fries ($12). It was huge and super plentiful. I thought it was a bit on the pricy side given that you can get poboys for around $8 around here though you'd have to pay extra for fries depending on where you go. She enjoyed it but I also found it odd that it was dressed with lettuce, tomato and onion?? Traditionally, it's pickles and not onion. Also they don't put any dressing on it as in mayo or the like, also a bit strange. I opted for the blackened fish sandwich. It's described as the same dressing as the poboy mentioned with a 'lime terriyaki glaze' and an 'island dipping sauce' with fries($11). The fish being used was amberjack and it was DEELICIOUS! The little things that I noticed were the following. The fish was super soft and borderline falling apart, the bread was also falling apart, it had a grilled and glazed pineapple ring on it (much to my surprise and delight) and the 'island sauce' came on the side (it's really remoulade but kind of bland). It was quite delicious and everyone seemingly enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for and I guess the price is kind of expected given the location. I just wish/hope they'd feature a bit more seafood and get a bit more creative with their good fortune of having fresh seafood readily available.

Shaggy's is one of the most popular seafood joint on the coast. It's a bit farther away from where we lived, but we try to stop by everytime we're in the area. I usually get their daily special because the fish are super fresh. I recently had the Blacken redfish which was amazing! They topped it w/ a special sauce and a side of green beans. We had the sautee crab claws and sweet potato fries as appetizers. You must give it a try. The staff and view of the harbor is awesome esp on a beautiful day. You have to walk up a flight of wood stairs to enter the restaurant, so he it's not very accessible for those who may be compromised. Other than that, food is tasty!

    (4)
  • Danielle M.

Service was great, food was good just wish they had a bigger menu! I ordered the special of the day which was blackened redfish, had two small bones in but other than that was great. Location is beautiful just wish there was an easier way up! Walking down those stairs with a baby and to-go boxes was a bit terrifying lol.

Great view of the harbor but that was the only high point of this place. We just stopped by for a few drinks on a sunny, late afternoon so I can't comment on the food. We sat outside and both ordered a daiquiri for the hot sun. If the daiquiri's weren't virgin, then I don't know what is. For the price they charge for them ($7-8 a piece) they should have some alcohol in them. Great view will probably lead us to try the new location being built in Biloxi for another chance.

What a find in the middle of nowhere!! Driving down Route 90, this fun seaside restaurant/bar stands proudly on the beach. Although we only had drinks, the staff was great and the atmosphere was truly tropical. Stop in... you won't be disappointed!!

Great place to hang out. Their sandwiches are a good value considering the location. The dinner items are not as good as the Half Shell and a bit more expensive. Still this is a really good place to go.

  • Roderick M.

If I would rate Shaggy's on the one menu item that consistently knocks my socks off, it would get 5 stars. However, on the whole scale, I think 4 stars is a better stamp. The menu item I mentioned is the blackend redfish. For the perfect Gulf Coast experience in cuisine, get over here and try whatever fish they're serving. You will not be disappointed.

Awesome place. I knew this place existed when I lived here in 2001-2003 but never went. What a mistake, unless it sucked pre-Katrina. Anyways, I'm back and my buddy took me here. It is perfect for a hot, humid day, as it's been lately. It is an open building...no windows, and they have misters on to "try" to keep people cool. The heat just makes a cold beer that much more refreshing. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was great. I also really liked the barbecue sauce. I have gone once since then and had the grilled shrimp. Also very good. Great food and atmosphere.

I had family in town so we came here. Sat outside, enjoyed the view and ordered beers. Too bad we didnt get to try the food but the service was great and fun, and we had a blast. I would most def kill a few more beers up here. Might need to come back to try the food, too.

Not as good as the first time we were here gumbo was cold and to salty Scallops were over cooked and grilled shrimp were to over seasoned but the View is still a top 5 Drinks are a bit on the High side of prices Too!

My folks recommended Shaggy's to me and my wife so we ventured out there to check it out. I was impressed with the upstairs seating, over looking the docks and the Gulf Coast. We really just drank some beer. The food looked/smelled decent, service was good, really everyone (including the customers) seemed at home there. I like how chill it was, I ended up getting 2 t-shirts, lol, I don't know why, but I did....maybe it was the corona talking to me. I will be back soon enough and try some real Gulf Seafood.

Surprisingly delicious. Great outdoor "florida keys" atmosphere overlooking the bay. Grilled yellow-fin tuna was really good with surprisingly eclectic seaweed salad--no offense Mississippi. Go here for a really good deal without pretense. Outdoor mister fans are a bonus.

Decent atmosphere - good quesadillas & redfish special (if they have it)! Also, good pork sandwich. Sides aren't that good and drink selection is horrid. Especially bad during the winter when windows are closed and the smoke from people smoking gets trapped inside!

My wife and I stopped in on June 11. We had the green tomatoes topped with crab as an appetizer. I had the assorted oysters on the half shell. The young lady at the bar that waited on us was great. The open air ambiance to the beach and marina was just beautiful. The food was very good and the beer was cold. We liked it so much we went back for dinner that evening. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

Shaggy's is a great place to meet with friends, and eat some great food. Do not let the oil woes keep you away from the Gulf Coast, or this excellent restaurant. The only thing I've ordered *three times now* is the blackened fish sandwich, opting for the sweet potato fries. It is sooooo good. I try to eat it opened face to cut the calories, but once the generous piece of fish is gone, so much flavor has soaked into the bottom bun. I only allow myself a couple bites, but they are each heavenly. The atmosphere is so relaxed and cheerful, filled with comforting chatter, and a beautiful harbor view. You won't go wrong here, as the prices will you make you happy, too. Service has always been quick & pleasant. Enjoy it, and go often! Support the Gulf Coast!!!

My wife and I stopped in for lunch today and really enjoyed this little dockside bar and grill. The wait staff was extremely welcoming and attentive to us, ask for Melissa as a waitress if you drop by. We tried the Jamaican Jerk shrimp which really impressed us, it's a definite must try if you stop in. Shaggy's has daily food and drink specials giving the patrons a bit of a break on their "specialty drinks". We plan on visiting again for a weekend dinner seems like the type of place that might have some real party potential when the weather gets warmer.

Fun beach atmosphere! Large Tvs for football, Coastal hits jammin and a fire keeping us warm in the winter. Seating inside or out on the water. Food and drinks keep flowing. Must stop by!

Very casual outdoor dining around a huge island style bar. It is placed in the Pass Christian Harbor so you can view boat traffic of pull your own boat right up to the dock. Portions are generous and seafood is always fresh. I recommend the Grilled Mahi sandwich or the Pulled Pork!
